 The Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research (IISERs) are a group of premier public research institutions in India, established by the Government of India through the Ministry of Education. They focus on both teaching and research in the natural sciences, aiming to provide high-quality education and foster research at the undergraduate level.


Here are some key points about IISERs:


1. Establishment

 The IISERs were established starting in 2006, with the first institutes being set up in Pune and Kolkata. There are currently seven IISERs located in Pune, Kolkata, Mohali, Bhopal, Thiruvananthapuram, Tirupati, and Berhampur¹.


2. Programs Offered

IISERs offer integrated five-year BS-MS programs, as well as PhD programs. Some IISERs also offer specialized BS programs in Engineering Sciences and Economic Sciences².
